We returned from Torun with some gingerbread, yum yum! We dip it in warm milk, because it's the hard kind, and it inspired Balrog to some storytelling:
'And once upon a time, when people still had no floors, they also had no weapons so they threw such (gingerbread) hearts. They didn't know that one should say "you mustn't fight".'
As you can see, Balrog already has his own opinion about the Torun gingerbread and people.
And maybe they threw these gingerbread hearts at the Teutonic knights' castle?
Wróciliśmy z Torunia z piernikami, mniam mniam. Maczamy je w ciepłym mleczku, bo inaczej nie da sie ugryźć, a Balroga natchnęło:
“A kiedyś dawno temu jak jeszcze ludzie nie mieli podłóg, to oni nie mieli broni i rzucali takimi sercami. Bo oni jeszcze nie wiedzieli, że się mówi "nie wolno się bić".
Jak widać Balrog wyrobił już sobie opinię o piernikach toruńskich i torunianach.
Może oni w ten zamek piernikami?
People in Torun conceal that nervous attitude of theirs very well - they seem to be very friendly people. Sociable, approachable for tourists, familiar with history of their city... well, we tried not to unnerve the dragon ;)
Anyway none of them made any use of that rock-hard Torun gingerbread while we were around, so it's only our guess.
Torunianie dobrze ukrywają tę swoją nerwowość - pozornie to bardzo przyjazni ludzie. Towarzyscy, otwarci na turystów, znający i lubiący historię swojego miasta... staraliśmy się nie drażnić smoka ;)
Tak czy inaczej, nikt przy nas nie robił użytku z twardych jak podeszwa pierników, więc to wszystko to tylko nasze domysły.
Reports from the 2nd Festival of Figurine Painting and Sculpting already appeared in the internet. And because straight after leaving Torun I joined Balrog on his kindergarten trip, others managed to describe the event before me, and they did it in a pretty exhaustive way. Relacje z II Festiwalu Malarstwa i Rzeźby Figurkowej, popojawiały się już w sieci. Jako, że prosto z Torunia wyjechałam na przedszkolną wycieczkę z Balrogiem, inni opisali wydarzenie całkiem wyczerpująco. Na swoich blogach zrobili to Mateusz i Michał.
I've never been to a historical modellers' exhibition before, and I've been told that it's a pretty common practice to award the best works without assigning (well known to me) gold, silver and bronze.
I just loved this approach, as it's much closer to how I imagine competing in such a soft and undefined field as painting.
Nie bywałam na wystawach modelarzy historycznych, a tam podobno to powszechnie stosowana praktyka, że najlepsze prace dostają na koniec wyróżnienia, zamiast znanych mi: złota, srebra i brązu.
Zachwyciło mnie to i jest to dużo bliższe mojemu wyobrażeniu rywalizacji w tak miękkiej i niepoliczajnej "dyscyplinie" jak malarstwo.
Let me share the great news with you: I managed to win the respect of the jury, who awarded with a great gun - a real historical blunderbuss! There were many works presented at the exhibition, and they painted in a variety of styles and subjects, so subjective decision of the jury was surely not an easy one.
Well, I can only thank for appreciating my efforts and enjoy the prize :-)
Chętnie się chwalę, że udało mi się zdobyć największe uznanie sędziego i zostałam nagrodzona wspaniłą strzelbą, prawdziwym historycznym garłaczem! Prac było bardzo dużo, a na dodatek bardzo mocno zróżnicowanych stylistycznie i tematycznie, więc subiektywna decyzja sędziego z pewnością nie należała do łatwych.
Pozostaje mi podziękować za docenienie moich starań i cieszyć się :-)
Thanks to all the painters and sculptors participating in the event for their great and fair competition, enjoyable chatting and insightful discussions. Thanks to the staff and organizers for their ever-growing ambitions regarding the next year's edition of the event, even though I can spot any weaknesses in this year's event.
Dziękuję malarzom i rzeźbiarzom, uczestniczącym w tym wydarzeniu, za zdrowe współzawodnictwo, świetne pogaduchy i merytoryczne narady, a organizatorom, za rosnące ambicje dla przyszłorocznej edycji, choć w tegorocznej organizacji ciężko dopatrywać się wad.
The Festival took place during the Days of Torun, and the combination allowed us to have a weekend full of attractions - we delayed our leave as long as we could, because leaving Torun was so difficult. We appreciate the help we received from Arbal, who was our guide in the city - thanks lots, you were awesome!
Dni Festiwalu pokrywające się z dniami miasta Torunia, to połączenie, które sprawiło, że weekend mieliśmy wypełniony atrakcjami po brzegi - zwlekaliśmy z wyjazdem nie umiejąc rozstać się z miastem.
